Cork University Business School, in association with the 30% Club, established this scholarship to help promote women in taking on leadership roles within companies and organisations.

The 30% Club is a collaborative business-led effort aiming towards 30% female representation in senior management.

The scholarship consists of 100% of tuition fees for the UCC CUBS Executive MBA 2023/24 programme for one successful female applicant and on this year’s International Women’s Day we are delighted to announce current MBA student Catherine Sheridan as this year’s scholarship awardee.

Catherine Sheridan is the founder of Sheridan Advisory Services, which provides advisory services for companies and organisations in relation to sustainability and energy.

Speaking about the scholarship and international women’s day, Catherine said:

“As a solopreneur, I knew an MBA would enhance my understanding of business, but wasn’t sure cashflow would enable the investment at this time. As I completed the application form for the CUBS 30% Club, I leaned into my mother’s wisdom of “if its for you it won’t go past you” coupled with my son’s advice of “Be yourself, everyone else is taken.

Presenting my authentic self on paper and at interview was empowering and when I was awarded a scholarship one the strength of it, I was simply delighted.  In a world where our multifaceted selves are sometimes square pegs in round holes, I felt this was an endorsement to continue to be myself and that people like me have a clear role in business.”

IWD is a moment in time to call attention to how much inclusion and diversity enhance profitability and sustainability.  It makes business sense.  By creating a diversity of voices in the rooms where decisions are made, we are achieving inspired inclusion.  I leverage this for clients resulting in shared value creation - more profitable businesses that are contributing to planet and people as a co-benefits
.”

Dr Ronan Carberry Programme Director of the UCC CUBS Executive MBA expressed his delight on the scholarship.

We are delighted to continue our partnership with the 30% Club to support the advancement of female leaders. While considerable progress has been made over the last number of years, there remains a significant gender gap in executive leadership positions. These types of initiatives are fundamental to the mission of CUBS and we were delighted to award Catherine the EMBA 30% Club scholarship for her vision for green energy in addition to her commitment to promoting STEM, diversity and inclusion”
