BSc Accounting students visit KPMG offices in Cork

Second year BSc Accounting (CK202) students recently visited the impressive new offices of KPMG on the South Mall in Cork city. The visit was arranged as part of the five-year partnership agreement signed between KPMG and UCC in 2021, and the students were accompanied on the day by Dr. Peter Cleary - BSc Accounting Programme Director and Mr. Mike Farrell - KPMG Lecturer in Accounting.

The day began with breakfast, before the students were introduced to KPMG and its values by two of the firm’s Partners – Mr. Barrie O’Connell and Ms. Celine Fox. An overview of the KPMG Student Programmes was also provided during this session. The visit also included a tour of KPMG’s premises, during which the BSc Accounting students observed via an observation deck KPMG staff in areas such as Audit and Taxation performing their daily duties. The students were also provided with details as to how KPMG has transformed its business to deal with the variety of sustainability issues now facing many of the firms that they engage with. A session providing guidance on best practice in CV preparation and interview tips was also held for the students, before the visit ended with lunch and a chance for the BSc Accounting students to network with various members of KPMG’s staff. A great day was had by all, so thanks again to KPMG for facilitating the visit, and we eagerly look forward to future events between KPMG and students pursuing the BSc Accounting degree at UCC.
