BIS Student Encourages UCC Community to Support Sanctuary Runners

Fáilte Refugees at UCC are supporting the Sanctuary Runners movement to register 1,000 people to take part in the virtual Cork City Marathon on June 6th.

Participants can run, jog or walk a full or half marathon with the Sanctuary Runners, or run a leg of a relay (7km to 10km).

Established in Cork during February 2018, the Sanctuary Runners bring together asylum seekers, refugees, and those in wider Irish society to run, jog or walk together on the one team in a spirit of solidarity, friendship, and respect.

This year, Liam Grainger, a final year BIS Student at Cork University Business School, is leading the Fáilte Refugees campaign to encourage the UCC community to join the Sanctuary Runners ahead of this year’s Cork City Marathon.

We're calling on all UCC Staff and Students to come out running, jogging, or walking with the Sanctuary Runners this June 6th.

Sanctuary Runners across 16-countries will be showing solidarity, friendship and respect to refugees and asylum seekers in this year's virtual Cork City Marathon, and we want to see the UCC community joining our global effort.

There is no fundraising involved, all you need is a pair of running shoes and away you go! We have been overwhelmed by the support so far and cannot wait to see everyone on the virtual start line in June.
