Full title: “The workplace of the future: the impact on the organisation, the employee and society”.
Project Outline
One of the key transformations of the past four-years has been how organisations and their employees work, given the introduction of hybrid work. Emerging evidence indicates positive employee perceptions towards improved work-life balance and wellness, while some organisations have also been reporting on improved productivity. On the other hand, concerns have also been raised about increased employee working hours, and the further blurring of work and home lives. Equally, the effectiveness of hybrid work options relative to more creative and complex tasks which require diverse collaboration (possibly in-person), knowledge exchange and discovery (e.g., R&D / innovation management) remains unvalidated. The future of the workplace and associated employment, innovation and operational practices are up for discussion as it has become clear that transitioning ‘back to normal’ is not for debate.
Many questions exist. First, what does this new work ‘place’ and ‘space’ look like? Second, how can organisations and employees adapt to this new normal? Third, how can organisations’ innovate in this new normal? Finally, what are the implications of this transition for society, communities, and cities?
