Laoise Ní Mhurchú Postgraduate Student Cork University Business School

Hi there!

I’m Laoise Ní Mhurchú, currently pursuing my MSc in Human Resource Management at CUBS, having completed my undergraduate degree in Commerce.

My decision to continue my postgraduate studies at CUBS was driven by several factors. During my undergraduate years, the HR modules ignited a passion in me for people management. This enthusiasm led me to undertake an HR internship in my third year and ultimately major in HR and Leadership in my final year. Eager to deepen my expertise and gain official accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), I explored the MSc in HRM program at UCC.

CUBS stands among the top 2% of business schools worldwide, renowned for its exceptional researchers and academics. Witnessing the calibre of lecturers firsthand during my undergraduate studies and discussing the benefits of a master's degree with them, solidified my decision. The internal application process was seamless and efficient, facilitated through the UCC postgrad portal.

Starting my master's program last September, I was thrilled to be based in the state-of-the-art CUBS Executive Education building at Lapps Quay. The smaller class size of around 40 students, compared to the 200+ in my undergraduate classes, fostered engaging discussions and closer interactions with lecturers. The program’s structure, condensed into two days a week, provided an ideal work-study-life balance. The emphasis on group work and assignments, instead of formal examinations, allowed for meaningful collaboration and effective workload management.

I’m excited to begin my new role as a Business Consultant this November. This position perfectly aligns with my academic background, both my undergrad and postgrad, and combing my passion for business and people management.

For those considering a postgraduate degree at CUBS, I recommend thorough research. If you seek to learn from some of the leading academics in the field, CUBS is the right place for you. Ensure that the course aligns with your career goals and any necessary accreditations. Most importantly, make the most of your time at CUBS. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, especially for those who demonstrate dedication and hard work.

Best of luck on your educational journey!
