We are thrilled to announce the winners of the Cork University Business School Teaching Excellence Awards 2024! These awards celebrate the exceptional contributions to education by dedicated colleagues.

At Cork University Business School, transformative education begins in the classroom with the teachers who inspire, engage, and inform their students. These awards recognise the remarkable commitment and innovative teaching practices demonstrated across CUBS. This is the first year of the awards, and each nominee was put forward by either a student or Academic staff member, receiving over 100 noimnations in total across the school. This staff recognition initiative delivers on UCC's strategy to develop university leaders and deliver enhanced and effective performance management that recognises, promotes and rewards strong performance.

Prof Anthony McDonnell, Interim CUBS Dean, stated, “I would like to congratulate everyone who was nominated for an award. Each nominee is pioneering innovative teaching and assessment methods, embedding sustainability into our curriculum, and fostering the success of our diverse student community. Their creative and forward-thinking approaches made the task of selecting this year’s recipients incredibly challenging. These awards are crucial in recognising the excellence and dedication of our faculty and staff, which play a vital role in maintaining the high educational standards at CUBS. I am deeply grateful to all the staff and students who participated in the nomination process, and I acknowledge the significant impact these efforts have on our academic and business community."

The Awards celebrate some of the most innovative approaches to creating and delivering outstanding business education across Cork University Business School. This year’s winners are:

  • Innovative assessment: Jeremy Hayes, Business Information Systems

  • Innovative Teaching Methods: Peter Cleary, Accounting & Finance

  • Integrating SDGs into Teaching: Emma Beacom, Food Business & Development

  • Student Engagement: Eimear McGeown, Accounting & Finance

 

Dr. Geraldine Ryan, Vice-Dean Learning & Teaching at CUBS remarked, “these awards provide a valuable opportunity to recognise the exceptional work of our colleagues.
