Part A:  ‘Time & File Management Workshop’

The time management and PhD file management sessions aim to help PhD students find a sustainable, enjoyable, and productive work and organisation routine to suit their schedules and way of working.  These sessions are based on the age old saying, "it's a marathon - not a sprint!"

The time management session explores the PhD journey and the multitasking required to sustain a balance across teaching, research, writing, and personal commitments. It discusses milestones, simple time management tools, and how to overcome obstacles. The file management session will provide helpful tips and tricks on how to manage and organise your PhD materials in an efficient manner.

Part B:  ‘Media Presence: Delivering your Research to a Public Audience’

Eoin Hahessy, Head of Media and Communications at UCC outlines the tools and supports to help you communicate your research at this training workshop.

Workshop 2 Overview

‘Exploring Entrepreneurial Thinking: A Perspective to Help Navigate the Ph.D. Journey’

The DISCUSS programme is supporting you our Phd students to help you navigate your journey…

This interactive and highly engaging workshop with Dr. Maria Coakley is doing just that and is NOT TO BE MISSED.  Here you will explore the power of entrepreneurial thinking as a mental model to navigate with.

Your journey …. ……

For sure the Ph.D. student journey is highly interesting, rewarding and can be a personally and professionally transformative experience.   It is also a journey that may be challenging, presents opportunities and delivers twists and turns along the way.

The power of an entrepreneurial way of thinking as a mental model …..

Our mental model and approach to these situations has a significant impact upon how we navigate the Ph.D. journey.  Being entrepreneurial as you navigate the journey offers a fresh perspective to view situations, problem-solve and make decisions.

Oh ….but what if I am so busy?? ….

Of course you are busy, though this could be time very well spent and worth the investment.  Even if you get one or two new valuable perspectives or tools during the session, these have the potential to be quite powerful ….Take the time to explore…..it could be time very well spent.

How could it be powerful ?

Being entrepreneurial may be experienced as an opportunistic, action-oriented, experimental, resourceful, creative, flexible, resilient, and collaborative way of operating when facing situations, opportunities, challenges and problem-solving.  These could be  valuable perspectives for your journey.

Thought-provoking and FUN

The workshop offers students the opportunity to discuss concepts together, collaborate in a team-based approach using experiential learning and reflective practice, thereby helping students to learn in an active and thought-provoking and FUN way.

We are looking forward to seeing you there !!

The workshop shall be facilitated by Dr Maria Coakley who is a business leader, trainer and university lecturer with over twenty-five years’ experience in leading, mentoring and training teams, Project Management, Business Operations, Change Management and Marketing who has a passion for entrepreneurship, transforming mindsets and professional development.

Maria has attained a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA Bus Economics) in UCC, with a research focus upon entrepreneurial decision making ( effectuation) and constructive development.
