CUBS Host Annual Bcomm Employability Showcase

Last week, in the Aula Maxima on UCC main campus we hosted the Annual BComm Employability Showcase. The event was a significant opportunity to explore the Unique Features of the Commerce CK201 programme and attracted hundreds of secondary school students from Cork and Munster, eager to learn about the Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) degree.

Insightful Panel Discussions

The showcase featured a panel of academics, current students, alumni, and employers who provided comprehensive insights into the programme's structure, experiential learning opportunities, integrative applications, and employment prospects for prospective students.Dr. Rosemary Murphy, Co-Programme Director, detailed the Programme Content from an academic perspective, offering an overview of what students can expect to learn throughout the four years of the BComm degree.Susan Lyons, the Placement Manager, gave a thorough presentation on the placement component of the programme, highlighting it as a key feature. This element allows students to gain invaluable work experience in professional settings across a range of sectors, thereby enhancing their employability.

International Opportunities and Student Experiences

Mary-Brid Murphy from UCC’s International Office discussed the year abroad option, a popular choice among students. This opportunity enables students to study at partner institutions around the globe, enriching their educational experience and broadening their international perspective.

Additionally, both current and former students shared their personal experiences. Ephrata Yosef, a fourth-year BComm student and Ben Horgan BComm 1 both spoke about the academic and practical aspects of the programme. Alumni such as Dan Savage, Audit Manager at PwC, Aoibhe Martin, Tax Associate at PwC, and Siobhan Slevin, Supply Network Planning Lead at DePuy Synthes, shared their career journeys and the impact of the BComm programme on their professional lives.

Employment Prospects for BComm Graduates

 

Dr. Susan Lyons, the BComm Placement Manager, concluded the discussions by focusing on the employment opportunities available to BComm graduates. The showcase emphasized how the programme equips students with the skills and experiences necessary to succeed in a competitive job market.
