In January 2025, Cork University Business School's Accounting and Finance department had the honor of hosting the 7th Accounting, Auditing, and Accountability (AAE) Conference. This landmark event attracted over 30 distinguished accounting academics from across the globe, including representatives from Ireland, Britain, Italy, Finland, Portugal, Australia, and the United States. The diverse attendance underscored the conference’s reputation as a truly international forum for scholarly exchange.
Keynote Speakers Inspire
We were privileged to welcome two eminent keynote speakers who are at the forefront of accounting research. Professor Ileana Steccolini from Essex University and the University of Bologna, editor of Financial Accountability and Management, shared her insights on the evolving roles of accountability in public and financial management. Professor Helen Tregidga from Royal Holloway, University of London, editor of Critical Perspectives on Accounting, provided a thought-provoking discourse on critical accounting theories and their societal implications.
A Platform for Interdisciplinary Engagement
The AAE Conference is an annual highlight in the academic calendar, supported by the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) and its Interdisciplinary Perspectives Special Interest Group (IPSIG). It fosters a unique platform where scholars from various disciplines can explore accounting as a social and institutional practice, transcending traditional boundaries and delving into its broader impact on society.
A Historic First for the Conference
This year's conference was particularly significant as it marked the first time the AAE Conference was held outside of England. Cork University Business School proudly joins the ranks of esteemed institutions that have previously hosted the event, including the universities of Birmingham, Newcastle, Queen Mary, and Sheffield. This milestone highlights our commitment to fostering global academic collaboration and positioning Cork as a hub for cutting-edge research in accounting and finance.
We look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence and welcoming future scholarly gatherings that enrich our academic community and contribute to the broader discourse in the field.
