The Department of Accounting and Finance recently held a very successful Accounting Seminar for Leaving Certificate Students who are considering studying the BSc Accounting Programme in Cork University Business School.

Over 90 Leaving Certificate students from over 30 Munster schools attended the event and were expertly advised on both the strength of the Degree and the various options open to them after graduation. Dr Michelle Carr opened the event and Dr. Peter Cleary expertly explained the programme, including the various elective modules that are available, including Law, Marketing, Economics, Data Analysis and Finance to mention but a few. It was emphasised that this programme offers the maximium amount of exemptions for Professional Exams after graduation.

Graduates who are now employed by the "big 4" Acounting firms included Ciara Baldwin from Ernst and Young, Steve Dinan from PWC, Damien Randles from KPMG and Aoife Murphy from Deloitte. Daniel Spillane who works in Industry also spoke of his experience in practice and now his work in industry.

Ms Aileen Waterman, the Programme Placement Co-Ordinator, thoroughly explained the 6 month paid placement in 3rd year, along with the training and preparation. 

Ms Aileen Waterman explained that the Careers Office begin training the students for their 6 month paid placement in 2nd year with various employability workshops, interview practice, cv writing etc, so that the students are thoroughly prepared for their paid placements in 3rd year. It was stressed that our students are mentored by both an Academic and a Business Manager during their placement in order to enhance their experience. 

She went on to explain that as a result of the placement process, the vast majority of Accounting students are offered full time positions on completion of their degree.

Both past and present students then surrendered themselves to a question and answer session from the floor which proved to be an immense success.
