You will also be responsible for and examined in all material delivered at lectures and tutorials and any additional required reading.

Full module information is detailed in the section below.

As individual modules have unique features, a diverse range of formative and summative assessment methods are used.  Formative assessment includes concept maps, one-minute papers, project proposals, in-class presentations etc. Summative assessment is generally, but not exclusively, in the form of end-of-semester examinations. Lauren Crowley - Irish Dairy Board Southern California

I grew up in a family run business and always knew I wanted to have a business career. In 2008 I choose to study for a BComm Degree at UCC.The BComm had great variety and flexibility in the modules on offer. In the early years, I studied core business principles, such as economics, information systems and accounting. By final year, I had made the decision to specialise in Marketing and Food Business.

Throughout my four years at UCC, I was very active with the Commerce Society where I developed significant leadership and organisational skills, as well as making life-long friends.  I was also actively in sports and I enjoyed training at the state of the art Mardyke Arena.

In Year 3, I was awarded the BComm Work Placement Award for exceptional performance during my six months work placement at Grant Thornton, Dublin. Having the opportunity to gain work experience while still studying was invaluable, and allowed me to develop a range of work related competencies, which are demanded by graduate employers. The experience helped me to advance both on a personal and a professional level.

The transferable skills I developed throughout my commerce degree were highly beneficial particularly when I was selected as a member of the BComm Team that represented UCC at the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition (JMUCC), held in Montreal, February 2013.  As a member of the team, I received extensive training from KPMG and the UCC Commerce Faculty before travelling to Canada for 10 days. I also attended creative thinking workshops, and presentation skills master classes, which were hugely beneficial in preparing me for interviews during final year.  Representing UCC at this prestigious competition was the highlight of my time in UCC.

As a result of the BComm Degree at UCC, I have become a well-rounded graduate with solid job prospects, ready to enter the world of work.I will graduate with a First Class Honours in October 2013. Without a doubt the BComm Degree opened many doors for me and played a major role in securing my dream job as a Sales and Marketing Representative – Irish Dairy Board – Southern California. I could not be happier with the decision I made four years ago.

Jean O’Sullivan - Accountant, Accenture

My name is Jean O' Sullivan. I graduated with honours from the B.Comm Programme in 2005 and subsequently completed an MBS in Corporate Strategy at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Following completion of my masters, I applied to work with Accenture - a global Management Consulting, Technology & Outsourcing company and was employed as a Business Analyst in 2006.

For the past 5 years, I have worked with Accenture’s Strategy Practice within its Management Consulting business where I have supported large UK and Irish Banks and Utility Companies with Strategic Planning & Transformation projects. In this time, I have worked across a number of areas including Credit Risk, Financial Reconciliations, Corporate & Retail Lending and Strategic Cost Reduction.

One of the main benefits of completing a Commerce degree is that it gave me a solid grounding in a wide variety of business disciplines. My degree gave me the opportunity to study current & exciting areas of business such as online marketing, innovation, disruptive technologies, strategic planning and entrepreneurship. After leaving UCC and completing my masters, I felt that I was well prepared for a career in Consulting - not only had I a good understanding of the challenges facing businesses in today’s competitive environment but I was also able to appreciate the levers a business can pull to gain a sustainable competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Sean O'Driscoll - CEO, Glenn Dimplex

He is a former  Director of AIB, and a former Member of the Government appointed Enterprise Advisory Group and of the High Level Ireland Asia Strategy Group.  He is currently a member of the President’s Advisory Board at University College Cork.

He was awarded the 2004 UCC College of Business and Law Alumni award for his business acumen.  In 2006 he was awarded an honorary OBE by Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to British industry.  My alma mater of which I am very proud, provided me with the foundation for a career in business.‌
