Dr JB McCarthy, Vice Dean Internationalisation & External Engagement at Cork University Business School, represented University College Cork at a recent meeting of faculties of economics and social sciences from across the UNIC alliance of universities.
The meeting was held at the University of Lodz, Poland, and involved representatives from University of Lodz, Malmö University, University of Deusto, University of Zagreb and University of Oulu. The meeting was designed as an opportunity to exchange experiences and challenges shared across the institutions, as well as to discuss potential collaboration in research and education.
Discussions covered the diverse research strengths across the faculties, variation in national contexts, as well as the importance of supporting bottom-up initiatives, enhancing networking, and promoting research opportunities for both academics and PhD candidates. Priority areas were established for future collaboration, including knowledge exchange on shared faculty goals, shared courses, and joint mobility initiatives including Blended Intensive Programmes and summer schools.
Speaking about the visit, JB commented, “It was a pleasure to participate in this gathering in Lodz, and to discuss ideas with UNIC partner universities. I look forward to continued collaboration and shared activities.”
