PROFESSOR STAVROULA LEKA AWARDED by the British Standards Institution for her leadership in developing ISO 45003

Professor Stavroula Leka receives British Standards Institution award for leadership.

Following her award of a Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Stavroula Leka has received a leadership award by the British Standards Institution. She was recognized for leading the development of the world's first ever national guidance standard on the prevention and management of psychosocial risks at work (British standard PAS1010) and an international standard for ISO in the same area (ISO 45003). Stavroula was commended for leading both processes with integrity and diplomacy and fostering a culture of respect, collaboration and inclusion amongst colleagues from around the world with very diverse views involved in these processes.

Stavroula is now advising organisations on the implementation of the new ISO standard to improve the psychosocial work environment and psychological health and safety at work around the world.

Professor Leka is a leading scholar in occupational health psychology and the management of psychosocial risks at work. She is Professor of Work Organization & Well-being at UCC and Emeritus Professor of Work and Health Policy at the University of Nottingham in the UK. A chartered psychologist, Stavroula is Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health and the Higher Education Academy. She sits on the Board of the International Commission on Occupational Health and is President of the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology.

Stavroula sits on the editorial boards of three international journals and is Associate Editor of the journal Safety Science. She has been keynote speaker in over twenty international conferences, including the WHO European Ministerial Conference on Mental Health (2005), and the European Commission and Belgian EU Presidency High Level Conference on Well-being at Work (2010). She has acted as expert advisor to the European Commission, World Health Organization, International Labour Organization, European Agency for Safety & Health at Work, and European Parliament. In 2011, she received an early career achievement award by the American Psychological Association for outstanding contribution in occupational health psychology and the study of work-related stress.
