MSc Scholarship Opportunity: SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS (RETAIL)

Award:

This 2-year MSc Scholarship offers an annual stipend of €19,230, along with a fee contribution of €5,770  (Total €25,000). A fee-waiver for non-EU portion may be applied if non-EU awardee. 

Research Brief:

The management of the in-store environment in grocery stores plays an enormous role in shaping shoppers’ purchasing decisions with direct consequences for the achievement of many of the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The retailer’s assortment, merchandising, and point of sale material amongst other factors can influence shopper behaviour in ways that that can either support or hinder positive health and wellbeing, entrepreneurial activity, innovation, and the protection of our seas and land.  The aim of this research is to reveal and explain ways in which modifications to the in-store environment may shape and encourage positive SDG promoting shopper behaviours. 

Requirements: 

We are seeking candidates with a strong academic track record (first or second class honours) in a relevant primary degree (e.g. consumer behaviour, management, marketing, applied psychology, or sociology) to conduct research into this area.  

International Students whose first language is not English will be expected to meet the MSc Commerce language requirements which can be found here

1.    CV (max. 2 pages) 

2.    Details on previous research modules undertaken, if any, and related grades. 

3.    Evidence of satisfying the English language requirements (if English not first language). 

4.    The contact details of two academic referees. 

5.    A 500 word research proposal relating to food retailing and shopper behaviour in the context of sustainable food systems, detailing the research question, a short literature review and proposed research methodology.  

6.     A short personal statement on the applicant’s personal development objectives and motivation for pursuing a MSc by research.
