I didn’t set out to work in Marketing, but here I am!
Hi everyone – I’m Luke, and I recently completed the MSc in Management and Marketing at Cork University Business School (CUBS), UCC.
My UCC journey began in 2020 with an undergraduate degree in Economics Through Transformational Learning (now Applied Economics). After finishing my undergraduate degree in 2023, I decided to continue my education and dive into a Master’s. Why? I loved the UCC experience. Throughout my time in UCC, I got involved in everything from being a Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) mentor to serving on the committee of the Economics Society. However, I felt like I still had more to give, and more to gain, from my time in UCC.
So why the MSc in Management and Marketing? A few reasons:
- I had heard great things from previous years’ students who’ve gone on to do exciting things.
- I wanted to broaden my skillset following my undergraduate.
- The course content really appealed to me – it was the perfect balance of theory and real-world application.
Having completed the programme, I can now give even more reasons to choose it. The lecturers were supportive, the material was challenging but practical, and my fellow students were fantastic. Over the course of the programme, we had interactive sessions, guest speakers, and opportunities to network and grow both personally and professionally.
When I began my master’s, I was working for one of the largest electrical retailers in Ireland. I had plans to pursue a career in general management; however by the time I finished the programme I had re-evaluated my goals and decided to pursue a career in Marketing. Fast forward to today, and I am working in a key marketing role at Brown & Brown, one of Ireland’s leading insurance brokerages – and loving what I do!
The MSc in Management and Marketing was difficult, no doubt, but I think it was absolutely worth it. If you are considering a career in marketing, management, or both (like me), I could not recommend this course enough.
