CUBS signs the Advance HE Athena Swan Charter October 2023

We are thrilled to announce a significant step forward in our commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equal learning and working environment at Cork University Business School (CUBS).

On October 26th 2023, Prof Thia Hennessy, Head of the College of Business and Law (Dean of CUBS 2017-2023) signed the Athena Swan Ireland charter principles, reaffirming CUBS dedication to promoting a culture that celebrates differences and provides equal opportunities for all.

By embracing a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds, we enrich not only our educational environment but also our wider community. With the signing of the Athena Swan Ireland charter, we commit to embracing diversity by celebrating the unique qualities that each individual student and staff member brings to our school community where everyone is valued and respected.

CUBS aims to provide equal opportunities for everyone, both academically and professionally. Through fair and inclusive practices, we strive to remove barriers that may hinder the success of any member of our school community. Our commitment to Athena Swan aims to nurture an environment that embraces open dialogue, understanding, and empathy among our students and staff across the school.

We recognise the importance of education and awareness in promoting equality. As we continue to engage in initiatives that raise awareness about issues related to equality, diversity, and inclusion, we invite every member of the CUBS community including students, staff, alumni, and our external partners to actively participate in our Athena Swan efforts. Prof. Anthony McDonnell, Interim Dean of CUBS explains “Athena Swan provides an important framework to support more inclusionary environments for staff and students and help realise better outcomes for all”.

Together, we can create a supportive community where everyone can thrive and succeed.
