Two UCC researchers have been selected to take part in the prestigious Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences, an international forum that brings together Nobel Laureates, leading economists, and outstanding young researchers from around the world.

PhD student Benjamin Bolger and Dr Zhengan Yin, from the Department of Economics at Cork University Business School, were chosen following a highly competitive, multi-stage process from UCC’s own internal selection, to nomination by the Irish Research Council, and finally, international review by the Lindau committee. Out of more than 20,000 global applications, just 250 participants were selected this year, with UCC proudly securing two of those places.

The Lindau Meetings are internationally renowned gatherings where young researchers engage directly with Nobel Laureates and leading economists. Held every three years in Lindau, Germany, the Meeting on Economic Sciences provides a unique platform for dialogue across generations, cultures, and disciplines, aimed at advancing global understanding of key economic challenges.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, PhD student Benjamin Bolger said:
“It's a privilege to have been selected to represent CUBS and UCC at the 8th Lindau Nobel Meeting in Economic Sciences this year. It is a great opportunity to connect with other young researchers and to hear from the Laureates in attendance.”

Dr Zhengan Yin added:
“I am truly honoured to be selected for the 8th Lindau Nobel Meeting on Economic Sciences. Representing Ireland on this international stage is a privilege, and I look forward to sharing perspectives and engaging in dialogue with leading minds shaping the future of our field.”

Their selection is a considerable honour for CUBS and UCC. Head of Department Professor Justin Doran noted:
“The Department of Economics at Cork University Business School are delighted to announce that two of our staff members have been selected to participate in the prestigious Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences. This highly competitive international forum brings together leading economists and outstanding young researchers from around the world, making their selection a remarkable achievement and a strong recognition of the quality of research and scholarship at CUBS.”

This achievement highlights UCC’s growing reputation for research excellence and its strong contribution to the international economics community – congratulations to Benjamin, Zhengan, and everyone involved.
