 Heavener International Case Competition

My name is Lucie O’Neill, I am a final year student studying Commerce, and in February I was proud to represent Cork University Business School at the Heavener International Case Competition in Gainesville, Florida alongside my teammates Rachel O’Callaghan, Charlie McGuinness and Michael Dore. It has been one of the highlights of my time here at UCC solving complex cases with my team!

After weeks of preparation with our fantastic coaches, Professor Edward Shinnick and Dr Noel Woods, we travelled to the University of Florida to compete against 15 other universities from around the world! Professor Shinnick travelled with us, and was an incredible mentor during our time in Florida, giving us invaluable feedback on each of our presentations.

The competition consisted of two challenging cases, one being a 9-hour case and the second a 28-hour one. The first was on a VR therapies company called ‘AIS’, which we were thrilled to present our solutions to the judges and win that case overall. We used various skills such as market research, financial analytics, critical thinking and creative marketing to come up with strong solutions for the problem at hand. We had such an incredible team dynamic and loved working hard at the cases together!

It was such an incredible week, and it couldn’t have been possible without such the incredible support we received from everybody at CUBS!
