Biography

Gerard commenced employment with UCC in the Quality Promotion Unit in 2005 and moved to the Department of Management & Marketing in 2007 to gain experience operating in an academic department. In 2021, Gerard moved to the new post of programme administrator responsible for the MSc Management and Marketing, the MSc Strategic Marketing & Practice and the MSc in Banking and Risk Management.

During his time in UCC, Gerard has sought continued professional development and has completed a range of courses aimed at developing and enhancing his administrative skills. He holds certificates in several areas including student welfare and health and safety, which demonstrate his commitment to and concern for the wider University community.

Gerard received the UCC 'Outstanding Colleague' Award from President Patrick G. O'Shea in 2017 and was recognised as a 'UCC Hero' in 2020, a UCC initiative that sought to highlight university staff who made an exceptional contribution during the Covid-19 crisis.

In December 2021, the Dean of the College of Business & Law awarded the 'College Heroes' team award to the professional staff in the business school, of which Gerard is a long-time member. The Dean stated: "throughout the Covid-19 pandemic the professional staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes supporting academics in the seamless delivery of programmes. Furthermore, professional staff helped transform a department-based structure to a thematic one, showing extraordinary resilience, professionalism and collegiality."

Prior to UCC, Gerard was employed in the Directorate General for Education & Culture in the European Commission in Brussels. In terms of academic achievement, Gerard holds a Joint Honours Degree in History & Sociology, a Diploma in French, a MA in International Studies and a Postgraduate Certificate in Project Management.
