Biography
Daniel Blackshields has been a lecturer in Economics since 1999. He also teaches and supervises on the certified programmes for CIRTL – the Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning. He holds an MBS (Business Economics). In 2009 he received an MA in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. This work was published in Innovative Business School Teaching (Routledge, 2013).
He has presented nationally and internationally on teaching for understanding, integrative learning and creativity. Daniel was nominated by the V.P. for Teaching and Learning for a National Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009 and won the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and the President’s Award for Research on Innovative Forms of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 2012. He was appointed as the CIRTL Teaching Fellow for Reflective Practice in 2012 and was nominated for a UCC Staff Recognition Award: Enhancing the Student Experience in 2014.
He is a member of the NAIRTL-funded Irish Integrative Learning Project which was nominated for a NAIRTL National Excellence in Teaching Award in 2010. In 2011 Daniel published a book: Making Connections: Intentional Teaching for Integrative Learning. He was the senior editor of the Routledge publication: Integrative Learning: International Research and Practice (2014). In 2015 Daniel was appointed to the expert panel of the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning. In 2015 he was (along with Dr. Ella Kavanagh) nominated by UCC for a National Teaching Experts: Learning Impact Award.
