Biography
William Sjostrom is senior lecturer in economics at the Centre for Policy Studies, where he has also served as dean of the Faculty of Commerce and director of the Executive MBA programme. He previously taught economics at Northern Illinois University and the University of Washington, was a staff economist at the Port of Seattle, and has consulted for the Port of Cork, the European Commission, the ESB, and private law firms. He serves on the editorial boards of Maritime Economics and Logistics and the International Journal of Transport Economics. He graduated from the University of Chicago, and received his PhD from the University of Washington.
His research focuses on competition policy in liner shipping, and on the economics of the family, with a current project on divorce in Ireland. He has also published papers on crime, unemployment, comparative competition law, and oligopoly in the lumber industry.
