Biography

Dr. Oliver Browne is a Lecturer in Accounting at Cork University Business School, University College Cork (UCC). Oliver’s teaching primarily focuses on Financial and Management Accounting, where he delivers courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he serves as the Director of the MSc in Accounting and Performance Analytics, overseeing curriculum development and student engagement. 

Dr. Browne’s research focuses on the intersection of Financial Technology (FinTech), regulatory frameworks, and financial ecosystems. His work examines the impact of FinTech innovations on financial incumbents, new market entrants, and regulatory bodies. In addition, Oliver is the 2025 Patrick J. McGovern Fellow awarded by Rutgers University and is currently investigating the impact of ownership dispersion on agency costs and economic performance in UK Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs). He has published in leading international peer-reviewed journals, including the British Journal of Management (BJM), Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology (JASIST), and has presented at major conferences such as the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). His research is supported by collaborations with industry partners and funding bodies, reinforcing its practical impact on financial technology and regulatory strategies. 

Before entering academia, Dr. Browne gained industry experience in regulatory and risk reporting, working in Treasury for Bank of Ireland, Ireland’s largest retail bank. He holds a PhD in FinTech, an MSc in Corporate Finance, a BSc in Finance, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma and Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education—all from UCC. 

Dr. Browne is actively engaged in professional and academic networks, contributing to the advancement of financial and technological research. He collaborates with industry partners and research centres, ensuring that his work remains relevant to both academic and professional communities.
