Biography

Dr. Fiona Edwards Murphy is lecturer in innovation and entrepreneurship in the iEd Hub and Department of Management and Marketing, CUBS, at UCC. She completed her PhD with the School of Engineering, and the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at University College Cork in the area of Internet of Things applications for honey bee health. She was an early leader in the space of IoT applications for apiculture and published on the topic in its infancy. Fiona is a graduate of the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (BE) Honours at UCC. She is a member of the IGNITE UCC advisory board and the European Female Founders Forum secretariat.

Prior to joining UCC Fiona was CEO and Co-Founder of ApisProtect Limited from 2017 to 2023. She was included on the 2021 Forbes Europe's 30 Under 30 list in the Manufacturing and Industry Category – “Creating the products, methods and materials of tomorrow”. She was recognised by the Irish Technology Group as one of their 2020 Silicon Valley 50 Honorees and won the Silicon Valley Forum Women in Tech Pitch Competition 2020.  She was listed by FoodTank as one of 15 Leading Women at the Intersection of Food and Technology in February 2021.
