Biography
Chris is a full-time lecturer in the Department of Food Business & Development, Cork University Business School, University College Cork. His teaching to date has been focused on the areas of sustainability, food consumer behaviour, strategic marketing, business ethics and market research at both undergraduate (Bachelor) and postgraduate (Master and Higher diploma) levels in Ireland and France.
As an interdisciplinary researcher in the domain of food consumer behaviour and environmental sustainability, Chris is passionate about producing high-quality research that is both novel and impactful in contributing to development of solutions to global food and sustainability challenges. His PhD research, previously funded by the Irish Research Council and the Environmental Protection Agency, explored the characteristics of the cognitive dissonance expressed by consumers in the context of environmental food behaviours. He has published on RTE Brainstorm and received the ‘Francophonie’ Prize at the 2022 national final of the ‘3 Minute Thesis’ competition where he presented his PhD in French.
Chris was also a member of the Irish research team on the PLATEFORMS project, an ERA-NET Co-fund under Horizon 2020, which explored how socio-technical innovations in food channels impact household food practices. Notable research outputs from this work that he has contributed to include a peer-review journal article in the ‘Sustainable Consumption and Production’ journal, two chapters in the book ‘Digital Food Provisioning in Times of Multiple Crises; How Social and Technological Innovations Shape Everyday Consumption Practices’ and two knowledge exchange webinars.
He is currently a co-supervisor on a PhD study entitled ‘Does Silent Introspection Make the World a Better Place? A Comparative Study into the Role of Inner Dimensional Interventions in Cross-Sectoral Interactions in Place-based Food Horticulture Development in Ireland and Cambodia’.
After completing his BComm in UCC in 2015 he undertook roles as a teacher and humanitarian worker in Cambodia, France, and Colombia before receiving his MSc in ‘Co-operatives, Agri-food and Sustainable Development’ from UCC in 2019.
