Ordinary People, Extraordinary Stories Research Exhibition

A free, public photo exhibition returns to campus as part of a collaborative research project with the UCC Centre for Co-operative Studies featuring the stories of credit union volunteers for UCC Community Week.

The Ordinary People, Extraordinary Stories’  research project captures the stories of credit union volunteers in Cork over the decades since the 1950s, recognising their significant voluntary efforts in giving people affordable access to savings and credit services.

Credit unions stretching across the county from Bantry to Youghal are included in the project. Each story is told in the words of the volunteers themselves and demonstrates their extraordinary commitment to the development and prosperity of their local communities.

The project has been designed and delivered by the UCC Centre for Co-operative Studies in association with the Cork Credit Union Chapter XI, an excellent example of the kinds of community engagement and outreach activities undertaken by the Cork University Business School at UCC.

A published book will follow.

The ‘Ordinary People, Extraordinary Stories’ exhibition offers a sample of the stories of those who contributed to the project. It runs from 4th October to the 13th October in the UCC O’Rahilly Building, 2nd floor, Block B. Entry is free and all are welcome.

The O’Rahilly Building is open until 10pm Monday to Friday and until 5pm on a Saturday and 3pm on a Sunday.
