Biography
Justin Doran is Professor of Economics and Co-Director of the Spatial and Regional Economics Research Centre in the Department of Economics, Cork University Business School, University College Cork. He holds a PhD (Land Economy) from the University of Cambridge.
His research interests lie in the areas of regional economics, economic resilience, applied and spatial econometrics, business innovation and firm performance. He has published over 50 peer reviewed academic articles in such highly ranked journals as Research Policy, Regional Studies, Environment and Planning A, and the Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy and Society among others. Justin's work has been cited more than 1,900 times and he has a h-index of 20 on Google Scholar.
Justin is the 2018 recipient of the Moss Madden Memorial Medal, which is awarded by the Regional Science Association International - British and Irish Section, to the author of the best article on regional science published in a particular calendar year. Justin received this award for his article on regional economic resilience published in Environment and Planning A available here. He features in Research Papers in Economics' (RePEc) ranking of top economists based on publications in the past ten years. Justin is also the recipient of the Early Career Researcher of the Year Award for UCC in 2018 and led the SRERC to the Research Team of the Year Award from the College of Business and Law in 2019 and the Research Team of the Year Award from Unviersity College Cork in 2020. He has previously served as Secretary of the Regional Science Association International - British and Irish Section is the current Chair of the Regional Studies Association - Irish Branch. He has also previously servied as a Co-Editor for the journal Spatial Economic Analysis and is currently on the Editorial Baord of Cogent Economics and Finance.
Justin graduated with a Masters in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from Unviersity College Cork in 2022. He currently teaches on the BA Economics (through Transformational Learning) and a number of advanced PhD modules.
Within UCC Justin is Chair of the College of Business and Law Research Ethics Committee. He also serves on the University's Social Research Ethics Committee.
